Yoyo problem.. me or the yoyo?

i have a cheap yoyo, like for kids and all, and i dont think i'm bad at yoyoing.. i mean i dont really care for complicated tricks or anything.. anyways, when i yoyo, it goes down like a couple of times, i can put it in sleep mode for a while and all, but then like when i try to do it again, it just starts like spinning sideways and out of control and it sucks.. now i dont know if thats because the yoyo is crappy, or because i'm doing something wrong.. if so, anyone know??
